Chapter 1

The Boy Who Cried Wolf

There was once a young shepherd boy who was bored with his flock. To pass the time, he ran down toward the village, shouting, "Wolf! Wolf!"

The villagers came running to help him, but when they arrived, they saw no wolf. The boy laughed at them for being fooled.

"There is no wolf," he said.

The villagers went back to their work, angry with the boy for wasting their time.

A few days later, the boy did the same thing again. He shouted, "Wolf! Wolf!"

Again, the villagers came running. Again, the boy laughed at them. "I tricked you again!" he said.

The villagers were very angry this time. They told him, "Don't do it again, or we won't believe you next time."

Soon after, a real wolf appeared. It attacked the sheep, and the boy, terrified, ran toward the village, shouting, "Wolf! Wolf! Help! The wolf is here!"

But the villagers, thinking he was trying to trick them again, did not come. They ignored his cries.

The wolf killed many of the sheep before the boy managed to escape.
